Can Dogs Eat Parsley?
Why it’s a sometimes-food
Curly parsley offers vitamins K and C and compounds that mildly freshen breath, and small sprinkles are safe. But parsley is also a mild diuretic rich in furanocoumarins and oxalates, so chronic large amounts stress the kidneys, and it should be avoided in pregnant dogs.
How to serve it safely
Sprinkle a teaspoon of chopped fresh parsley over food occasionally for breath-freshening. Skip it for dogs with kidney disease or a stone history.
Warning signs to watch for
Large or chronic servings can cause increased urination, stomach upset and, in susceptible dogs, contribution to stone formation.
When to call the vet
Dogs with kidney disease, bladder stones or pregnancy should not get parsley without a vet’s approval.
Common questions
Does parsley really fix bad breath?
It helps mildly with mild odor. Strong bad breath means dental disease or gut problems — get a vet exam.
Spring parsley vs regular parsley?
Spring parsley is a different plant and can cause photosensitivity — stick to true garden parsley, in small amounts.
