Can Cats Eat Pineapple?
Why it’s fine
Pineapple flesh is non-toxic, but it contains bromelain, a protein-digesting enzyme that can cause drooling and mouth irritation in some cats. The fruit is also very sugary, and canned pineapple sits in syrup no cat should drink.
How to serve it safely
Offer one small piece of fresh, peeled pineapple with the core removed. Skip canned versions and never offer the spiky skin or crown.
When to call the vet
Call your vet if a cat drools heavily, refuses food or vomits repeatedly after eating pineapple.
Common questions
Why did my cat drool after licking pineapple?
Bromelain breaks down proteins — including the ones in the mouth. Mild drooling passes quickly; persistent drooling deserves a vet call.
