Can Cats Eat Chamomile?
Why it’s a problem
Chamomile flowers and leaves contain bisabolol, chamazulene and anthemic acid, and ASPCA guidance lists chamomile as toxic to cats. Ingestion causes vomiting, diarrhea and skin irritation, and rare allergic reactions can be severe. A weak tea splash is low risk, but the plant itself is not a cat treat.
How to serve it safely
Keep chamomile plants, loose flowers and teas away from cats, and never try to calm a cat with herbal remedies.
Warning signs to watch for
Drooling, vomiting, diarrhea and skin irritation; rare allergic reactions can cause swelling and breathing difficulty.
When to call the vet
Call your vet if a cat chews the plant, and urgently for facial swelling or breathing trouble.
Common questions
Can chamomile tea calm an anxious cat?
No. Human herbal calming does not dose safely for cats — ask your vet about proven feline anxiety options instead.
